Sebatu Sanctuary

Mission & Environmental Commitment

Sebatu Sanctuary was created with a clear mission: to offer memorable guest experiences while actively reducing environmental impact. The property aims to demonstrate that thoughtful environmental design and operations can enhance guest satisfaction, reduce long-term costs, and serve as a practical model for other resorts and hotels.

Energy & Water Reduction

Sebatu Sanctuary measures its performance against comparable resorts, with the goal of reducing electricity and water consumption by at least 50%. This is achieved through the use of solar panels, energy-efficient appliances, and rainwater harvesting systems integrated throughout the property.

Wastewater & Ecosystem Protection

All wastewater is treated on site using natural ecological processes, including a wastewater garden. This approach ensures that water released back into the environment does not negatively impact downstream communities or wildlife, supporting healthy local ecosystems.

Plastic Reduction & Responsible Materials

Single-use plastics are actively minimized across the sanctuary. Reusable glass water bottles are provided in rooms and restaurants, while takeaway packaging is made from compostable sweet potato material. During construction, material choices were carefully considered to reduce environmental footprint — including safari tents, bamboo treehouses, and villas built with blown cement blocks that reduce concrete use by approximately 65% compared to conventional blocks.

Nature-Based Guest Experiences

Sebatu Sanctuary encourages guests to reconnect with nature through open-air accommodation, forest surroundings, and a natural swimming pool where guests share the water with fish. Experiences extend beyond the property through guided nature walks and treks, while the restaurant highlights locally foraged ingredients such as jackfruit, lemongrass, and forest ferns collected from nearby areas.
