Lava rock roofs help absorb heat and naturally regulate temperatures, reducing reliance on air-conditioning, while layout and material choices emphasise natural ventilation and lighting. No Plastics & Zero Waste Policy
Alila Villas Uluwatu has eliminated all single-use plastics throughout the property, including back-of-house operations, as part of its Zero Waste initiative. The resort is a proud signatory of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative, working to phase out problematic plastic packaging and transition to reusable, recyclable, or compostable alternatives.
Sustainability Lab & Circular Waste Management
At the heart of the resort’s waste strategy is its Sustainability Lab, an on-site facility that transforms waste streams into higher-value products through biological and mechanical processes. Organic waste is composted to enrich the resort’s organic gardens, glass is recycled into new objects and dining ware, and other recycled materials are upcycled in creative ways, demonstrating a circular approach to resources.
Water Bottling & Resource Conservation
Alila Villas Uluwatu produces its own drinking water via an on-site purification system, replacing single-use plastic bottles with refillable glass bottles, thus reducing plastic waste and lowering carbon footprint. These systems complement broader efforts at water conservation across the property.
