THE PUNCH PROFILE

Capella Ubud

Capella Ubud, Bali is a secluded jungle camp set within a 3.5-hectare conserved tropical forest in the village of Keliki, between the Wos streams and surrounding rice fields. Designed by Bill Bensley as a time capsule inspired by early 1800s explorers, the camp’s 23 tented accommodations were carefully positioned without cutting down a single tree. Blending nature, culture, and craftsmanship, Capella Ubud offers an immersive experience where forest biodiversity, Balinese traditions, and thoughtful design coexist in quiet harmony.

Capella Ubud

Nature & Biodiversity

Capella Ubud is located within a protected 3.5-hectare tropical jungle, preserving native flora, fauna, and birdlife. The camp was designed and built with minimal environmental impact, ensuring no trees were removed during construction and allowing the forest ecosystem to remain intact.

Cultural Preservation & Community

Deeply connected to its surroundings, Capella Ubud embraces Balinese traditions through daily rituals such as Mebanten offerings placed throughout the camp. The Wos River Temple, a community temple established in 1940, was carefully restored during construction, allowing local worship and traditions to continue uninterrupted. Guests are invited to participate in water purification rituals, fostering a respectful connection to local spirituality.

Design, Craft & Local Collaboration

The camp’s interiors celebrate Indonesian artistry through collaborations with Balinese and Indonesian artisans. Wooden carvings, upcycled furniture, Indonesian batik linens, and Balinese Endek textiles are integrated throughout the camp, reflecting cultural heritage while supporting local craftsmanship.

Living with the Land

Capella Ubud exists within the cultural landscape shaped by the Subak irrigation system — a traditional, community-led water management practice that links agriculture, temples, and spiritual life. This relationship highlights the importance of balance between people, water, and land.

Environmental Measurement

Capella Ubud is EarthCheck Gold Certified, with annual assessments measuring sustainability performance across operations and community relations, ensuring ongoing accountability and responsible stewardship.
